Search for groups on Facebook

On Facebook, click the menu icon then "Groups," or type what you are looking for in the search bar and click "Groups" on the results page. Look at member counts — well-run groups usually have hundreds to thousands of active members.

Read the rules and description

Every group has a description and rules posted at the top. Read them before joining — some groups require answering screening questions about why you want to join.

Request to join

Click "Join Group." Many private groups have admins who review every request and might take a few days to approve. Public groups let you join instantly.

Watch for scams

Never buy anything from a stranger in a group who asks to use Zelle or Venmo "friends and family." Ignore messages from members claiming you won a prize. Report anyone who private-messages you asking for money or personal info.

Leave if it turns toxic

Click the three-dot menu on the group page and choose "Leave group." You can also mute the group to stop notifications without leaving. Your mental health matters more than staying in a group full of arguments.
