Visit linkedin.com and sign up. Add a professional photo (clear headshot, plain background). Write a headline that describes what you do. Fill in your work experience and education.

Write a strong summary

Your About section should be 3-5 sentences about your professional background, skills, and what you're looking for. Write in first person. Keep it conversational but professional.

Connect with people

Search for colleagues, classmates, and professional contacts. Send connection requests with a personal note. "Hi [Name], it was great meeting you at [event]" gets more accepts than a blank request.

Engage with content

Like and comment on posts in your feed. Share articles relevant to your industry. Post your own insights, achievements, or lessons learned. Engagement increases your visibility.

Job searching

Click the Jobs tab. Search by title, company, and location. Set up job alerts for positions you're interested in. Use "Easy Apply" for quick applications. LinkedIn shows if you have connections at the company.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn offers thousands of professional courses (included with Premium, or accessible through many libraries for free). Earn certificates for completed courses that display on your profile.

Privacy settings

Settings > Visibility. Control who sees your connections, profile views, and activity. You can browse profiles privately (they won't know you viewed them) but you also won't see who viewed yours.
