    Create an account

    Visit x.com or download the X app. Sign up with your email or phone number. Choose a username (@handle). Add a profile photo and brief bio describing yourself or interests.

    Follow accounts

    Follow news outlets, public figures, and topics you care about. Their posts appear in your timeline. X will suggest accounts based on your interests. Start with 20-30 follows.

    Post (formerly Tweet)

    Click the compose button (+) to write a post (up to 280 characters for free, longer with premium). Add photos, videos, polls, or links. Keep it concise — brevity is valued here.

    The timeline

    The "For You" tab shows algorithmically chosen posts. The "Following" tab shows posts from people you follow in chronological order. Switch between them based on your preference.

    Interact with posts

    ~15s
    Heart (like), Repost (share with your followers), Reply (join the conversation), Bookmark (save for later). Quote posts to add your own commentary when sharing.

    Manage your experience

    ~15s
    Mute or block accounts that bother you. Mute specific words or phrases. Turn off Retweets from specific accounts. Control who can reply to your posts.
