Stickies is a free app built into every Mac that puts digital sticky notes right on your desktop — just like the physical yellow sticky notes you might stick to your monitor or refrigerator, except these float on your screen and are always visible.
Each sticky note is a small, resizable window that stays on your screen even when you switch between other applications. You can have as many stickies open as you like, in different colors to help organize them by category.
Stickies are perfect for: - A quick shopping list you're building throughout the day - A phone number or address you need to copy later - A reminder about something you need to do before you close the computer - Notes from a phone call - A task you need to finish before logging off
Unlike reminders or calendar events, stickies stay visible on screen without you having to open any app. They're passive — they sit there in the corner of your screen so you see them every time you look at your Mac.
You can make stickies translucent so they don't cover your desktop icons, collapse them to just a title bar when you're not actively using them, and pin them to float above all other windows if you need to reference them while working.
Stickies automatically save their content, so if you close and reopen the Stickies app, all your notes reappear exactly where you left them.
