How to Use Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay

Pay at stores with your phone or watch — faster and more secure than a physical card.

    1

    How mobile payments work

    ~15s
Your phone stores an encrypted version of your card. When you tap to pay, it sends a one-time code to the terminal — your actual card number is never shared. This is more secure than swiping a physical card.
    2

    Set up Apple Pay

    ~15s
iPhone: Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Add Card. Take a photo of your credit or debit card or enter the number manually. Verify with your bank (usually a text code).
    3

    Set up Google Pay

    ~15s
Open the Google Wallet app (or download it). Tap + > Payment Card. Scan or type your card details. Verify with your bank. Works on most Android phones with NFC.
    4

    Pay at a store

    ~15s
Look for the contactless payment symbol (four curved lines) at the register. iPhone: double-click the side button, authenticate with Face ID, hold near the reader. Android: unlock your phone and hold it near the reader.
    5

    Pay online and in apps

    ~15s
Many websites and apps accept Apple Pay or Google Pay at checkout. Tap the payment button instead of typing card numbers. Faster and more secure than entering card details manually.
    6

    Use with your smartwatch

    ~15s
Apple Watch: double-click the side button and hold near the reader. Samsung Watch and some Wear OS watches also support mobile payments. Leave your phone and wallet at home for quick errands.
    7

    Is it safe?

    ~15s
Mobile payments are safer than physical cards. Your card number is never stored or transmitted. Each transaction uses a unique token. If your phone is lost, no one can use your payment methods without biometric authentication.
