How to Edit Photos on Your Phone: Simple Fixes & Filters

Make your photos look amazing with free built-in editing tools — crop, brighten, add filters, and remove unwanted objects.

    1

    Use your phone's built-in editor

    ~19s
You don't need to download anything — your phone has a powerful photo editor built in. On iPhone: open Photos → tap a photo → tap "Edit" (top right). On Android: open Google Photos → tap a photo → tap "Edit" (bottom center). Both give you tools for cropping, adjusting brightness, applying filters, and more.
    2

    Crop and straighten

    ~17s
In the editor, tap the crop icon (overlapping right angles). Drag the corners to crop out unwanted parts of the photo. Use the rotation slider to straighten a tilted horizon. Tap "Aspect Ratio" to crop to a specific shape (square for Instagram, 16:9 for widescreen, 4:3 for printing). Tap Done when finished.
    3

    Fix brightness and color

    ~21s
Tap the adjustment icon (sliders). The key adjustments are: Exposure/Brightness (if the photo is too dark or too light), Contrast (makes colors pop), Saturation (makes colors more vibrant), Warmth (cooler = blue tint, warmer = golden tint). Start with Auto/Enhance for a one-tap fix. Then fine-tune individual sliders if needed.

    Quick Tip

Less is more with editing. Small adjustments look natural; over-editing makes photos look artificial.

    4

    Apply filters

    ~17s
Tap the filters icon (three overlapping circles or a magic wand). Swipe through the filter options — each preview shows how your photo will look. Popular choices: "Vivid" for brighter colors, "Dramatic" for moody black-and-white, "Warm" for a golden glow. You can usually adjust filter intensity with a slider. Tap to apply.
    5

    Remove unwanted objects (AI tools)

    ~29s
The latest phones have AI-powered erasers: iPhone 16+ has "Clean Up" (tap EditClean Up → brush over the object). Google Pixel has "Magic Eraser" (EditToolsMagic Eraser). Samsung has "Object Eraser" (Edit → three dots → Object Eraser). Circle the object you want removed, and the AI fills in the background. It works best on small objects against simple backgrounds.

    Quick Tip

All edits in your phone's photo app are non-destructive — you can always tap "Revert to Original" if you don't like the changes.
