    How to Send a Message on WhatsApp

    Sending a message on WhatsApp is as simple as texting — here's how to chat with friends and family for free.

    Open WhatsApp

    Find the green WhatsApp icon on your phone and tap it. You will see your list of recent conversations.

    Start a new chat

    Tap the green message button (bottom right on Android, top right on iPhone). Choose the person you want to message from your contacts list.

    Type and send your message

    Tap the text box at the bottom, type your message, and tap the green arrow to send it. One grey tick means sent. Two grey ticks mean delivered. Two blue ticks mean read.

    Send a photo or video

    Tap the camera icon or the paperclip icon next to the text box. Choose a photo from your gallery or take a new one. Add a caption if you like, then tap send.

    Quick Tip

    You can send multiple photos at once by tapping several before hitting send.
