    How to Set Up Online Banking

    Set up online access to your bank account to check balances, pay bills, and transfer money from home.

    Go to your bank's official website

    Type your bank's name into your browser (for example, bankofamerica.com, chase.com, or wellsfargo.com). Do not click search result ads — type the address directly. Look for the "Sign In" or "Enroll in Online Banking" button.

    Enroll and verify your identity

    Click "Enroll" and enter your account number or debit card number, Social Security number (last 4 or full), and date of birth. The bank uses this to confirm you are the account holder. You will also verify your identity with a code sent to your phone or email.

    Create a username and password

    Choose a unique username and a strong password with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Do not use the same password you use for other websites. Write it down and store it in a safe place.

    Set up two-factor authentication

    Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in your security settings. This sends a one-time code to your phone every time you log in from a new device, preventing anyone else from accessing your account even if they have your password.
