How to Set Up YouTube Kids

YouTube Kids is a free, child-safe version of YouTube with parental controls, age-based content filters, and no comments section.

In this guide (5 steps):

1.Download YouTube Kids
2.Sign in as a parent
3.Create a profile for each child
4.Pick a content setting
5.Set a timer to limit watching

Download YouTube Kids

Open the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android), search for "YouTube Kids," and install the app. It has a red icon with a play button — not the regular YouTube icon.

Sign in as a parent

Open the app and tap I'm a Parent. Enter your birth year and sign in with your Google account. This creates the parent profile.

Create a profile for each child

Tap Add Profile and enter the child's name, age, and photo (optional). Each child gets their own profile so YouTube Kids can match content to their age.

Pick a content setting

Choose Preschool (under 5), Younger (5–8), Older (9–12), or Approve Content Yourself. The first three filter videos automatically; the last one lets you hand-pick every allowed video.

Set a timer to limit watching

Tap the lock icon in the corner, solve the math problem, and tap Timer. Set how many minutes your child can watch — when time runs out, the app locks and tells them to take a break.
