    How to Set Up and Use a Smart TV

    Connect your smart TV to the internet and start streaming your favorite shows and apps.

    Initial setup

    When you first turn on your smart TV, it walks you through setup: language, Wi-Fi connection, and account sign-in (Google for Android TV, Samsung for Samsung, LG for LG, etc.).

    Connect to Wi-Fi

    During setup (or Settings > Network): select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password using the on-screen keyboard. Use the remote's directional buttons to navigate. This can be slow — be patient.

    Install streaming apps

    Open the app store on your TV. Search for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube, and others. Click Install. Sign in with your account on each app. Most TVs come with popular apps pre-installed.

    Connect a streaming device (optional)

    If your TV's built-in apps are slow, plug in a Roku, Fire Stick, or Apple TV into an HDMI port. Switch your TV input to that HDMI port. Streaming devices are usually faster and get updates longer.

    Use voice control

    Many smart TV remotes have a microphone button. Press it and say "Open Netflix" or "Search for action movies." This is much faster than typing with a remote.

    Cast from your phone

    Send content from your phone to the TV. iPhone: use AirPlay (swipe and tap the AirPlay icon). Android: use Chromecast (tap the Cast icon in apps). Your phone becomes a remote control.

    Adjust picture and sound

    Settings > Picture: choose a picture mode (Standard or Movie for most accurate colors). Settings > Sound: enable dialogue enhancement if voices are hard to hear. Turn off motion smoothing for movies.
