    Download the YouVersion Bible App

    ~20s
Open the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for "YouVersion Bible." Look for the app with an orange open-book icon made by Life.Church. Tap "Get" or "Install" — it is completely free to download and use.

    Quick Tip

The app is also available for Amazon Fire tablets through the Amazon Appstore — search "YouVersion Bible" there.

    2

Create a Free Account or Sign In

    ~16s
When the app opens, tap "Sign Up" to create a free account using your email address, or sign in with an existing Google or Facebook account if you prefer. Having an account means your highlights, notes, and reading progress are saved and backed up automatically.
    3

    Choose a Bible Translation

    ~25s
From the main reading screen, tap the name of the current translation (shown near the top). A list of available translations will appear. Scroll through and tap any translation to switch to it. You can download translations for offline use by tapping the download icon next to a translation name.

    Quick Tip

If you are not sure which translation to pick, the New International Version (NIV) or New Living Translation (NLT) use clear, modern language that many readers enjoy.

    4

    Start a Reading Plan

    ~15s
Tap the "Plans" icon at the bottom of the screen. Browse the available plans by topic or duration. Tap any plan to see a description, then tap "Start Plan" to begin. The app will remind you each day to complete your reading.

Listen to the Bible Being Read Aloud

    ~24s
Open any chapter by tapping a book name, then a chapter number. Look for the headphone or play icon near the top of the reading screen. Tap it to start audio playback. You can adjust the reading speed if needed — a slower speed is available for easier following.

    Quick Tip

The audio feature works great when you are cooking, walking, or relaxing in a chair and want to rest your eyes.

YouVersion is one of the most popular free apps in the world, and for good reason. It puts the Bible right on your phone or tablet, in hundreds of different translations and languages. Whether you prefer the King James Version, the New International Version, or a contemporary translation like the Message, you can switch between them with a tap. You can also listen to the Bible being read aloud — great if your eyes get tired or you want to follow along while doing other things around the house.

The app offers reading plans that guide you through the Bible in a structured way. Some plans take you through the whole Bible in a year. Others focus on specific topics like prayer, hope, or overcoming worry. You can follow a plan on your own or join one with friends and family members, which makes it a wonderful way to stay connected with loved ones over shared faith.

YouVersion also sends you a Verse of the Day notification each morning — a short scripture to start your day. You can highlight verses, write personal notes, and bookmark your favorite passages. Everything syncs across your devices, so if you read on your tablet at home and then check your phone later, your place is saved automatically.

The app works even without an internet connection once you have downloaded a Bible translation, which is helpful when traveling or in areas with poor signal. There are no hidden fees or paywalls — the entire app is completely free, supported by donations. It is available on iPhone, Android phones, tablets, and even Amazon Fire devices.
