    Set up your Echo

    Plug in your Echo device. Download the Alexa app on your phone. Follow the setup wizard: connect to Wi-Fi, sign in with your Amazon account. The setup takes about 5 minutes.

    Start every command with "Alexa." Try: "What time is it?" "What's the weather?" "Play jazz music." "Set a timer for 10 minutes." "What's on my calendar?" "Tell me a joke."

    "Alexa, call Mom." "Drop in on the kitchen." "Send a message to David." Echo devices can make free calls to other Echo devices and phone numbers. Set up Drop In for instant intercom between rooms.

    Privacy controls

    In the Alexa app: Settings > Alexa Privacy. Review and delete voice recordings. Turn off "Use of voice recordings" for improvement. Press the microphone mute button when you want privacy.
