    Set up Dropbox

    Visit dropbox.com and create a free account (2 GB storage). Download the desktop app and mobile app. A Dropbox folder appears on your computer — anything you put in it syncs to the cloud.

    Sync files

    Save or move files to your Dropbox folder. They automatically upload to the cloud and appear on all your other devices. Edit a file on your phone, see the changes on your computer.

    Share files and folders

    Right-click a file or folder > Share. Enter email addresses or create a shareable link. Set permissions: can view or can edit. Great for sharing large files that won't fit in email.

    Log into dropbox.com from any computer to access your files. Use the mobile app to view, share, and manage files from your phone. Open and edit documents directly in the app.

    Version history

    Dropbox keeps 30 days of file history (180 days on paid plans). If you accidentally delete or change a file, right-click > Version History to restore a previous version.

    Free: 2 GB (very limited). Plus: $11.99/month for 2 TB. Google Drive offers 15 GB free and may be more cost-effective for most people. OneDrive gives 1 TB with Microsoft 365.
