How to Record Audio and Voice Memos on Android

Android phones come with a built-in voice recorder app (though the name varies by manufacturer). It's perfect for recording a quick voice note to yourself, capturing audio at a meeting or lecture, saving a reminder for later, or recording a family member's voice as a keepsake.

The app works very much like a tape recorder — press record, speak, press stop, and the audio is saved. Most Android voice recorder apps also let you:

• Trim the recording (cut out silence at the beginning or end)
• Rename recordings to something meaningful like "Doctor appointment notes"
• Share a recording via email, text message, or a cloud service
• Transcribe speech to text automatically (on newer Samsung phones, this is especially polished)

On Samsung Galaxy phones, the app is called "Voice Recorder" and has features like scene-based recording modes (standard, interview, speech-to-text) and the ability to bookmark key moments within a long recording.

On Google Pixel phones, it's called "Recorder" and includes a standout feature: it automatically transcribes your speech to text in real time. So you can read the transcript as you listen rather than replaying audio.

On other Android phones, the app might be called "Sound Recorder," "Voice Memo," or something similar — search your app drawer or the Play Store for "voice recorder" if you can't find it.

All recordings are saved to your phone's storage and can be accessed from within the app or from the Files app.
