    How to Set Up a New iPhone

    Got a new iPhone? This guide walks you through every step from turning it on to signing in with your Apple ID.

    Turn on your iPhone

    Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. Place the phone on a flat surface and wait for the "Hello" screen.

    Choose your language and connect to Wi-Fi

    Swipe up and follow the prompts to select your language and country. Then select your home Wi-Fi network from the list and enter the password.

    Quick Tip

    Write your Wi-Fi password down before you start. You will find it on a sticker on the bottom of your router.

    Set up Face ID or Touch ID

    Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your face or fingerprint. This lets you unlock your phone securely without typing a password every time.

    Sign in with your Apple ID

    Enter your Apple ID email and password. If you do not have one, tap "Forgot password or don't have an Apple ID?" to create one for free. Your Apple ID connects to the App Store, iCloud, and iMessage.

    Warning

    Write down your Apple ID email and password and keep them somewhere safe. You will need them if you ever get a new phone.

    Restore or start fresh

    If you have an old iPhone, choose "Transfer from iPhone" or "Restore from iCloud Backup" to move your apps and photos across. If this is your first iPhone, choose "Set Up as New iPhone."

    Update to the latest iOS

    Go to Settings, then General, then Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. This keeps your phone secure.
