How to Manage Your Apple ID: Password, Payment, and Privacy

Your Apple ID is the key to your iPhone, iCloud, and all Apple services. Here's how to update your password, manage payment methods, and review what's connected.

    1

    Access your Apple ID settings

    ~16s
On iPhone: Go to Settings and tap your name at the very top — this opens your Apple ID page. Here you see your name, email, and options for iCloud, Media & Purchases, and more. Alternatively, go to appleid.apple.com in a browser on any device.
    2

    Update your Apple ID password

    ~30s
On iPhone: tap "Sign-In & Security," then "Change Password." You'll need to enter your current password and then a new one. A strong Apple ID password should be at least 8 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Apple will never ask for your password via email or phone.

    Warning

If you receive an email, text, or call claiming to be from Apple and asking for your Apple ID password or a verification code, it's a scam. Apple never asks for this — only enter credentials at appleid.apple.com or in Settings on your device.

    3

    Turn on Two-Factor Authentication

    ~17s
In Sign-In & Security settings, check that "Two-Factor Authentication" is turned on. With this enabled, signing into your Apple ID from a new device requires both your password and a 6-digit code sent to your trusted iPhone. This makes your account far harder to hack even if someone has your password.
    4

Review which devices are signed in

    ~20s
Scroll down in Settings > [your name] to see a list of all Apple devices signed in with your Apple ID. Tap any device to see details. If you see a device you don't recognize or no longer own, tap it and choose "Remove from Account." An old phone you traded in should be removed from your account.
    5

    Manage payment methods and subscriptions

    ~23s
On iPhone: tap "Media & Purchases," then "View Account." Tap "Manage Payments" to update your credit/debit card or Apple Pay. Tap "Subscriptions" to see all active Apple subscriptions (Apple Music, iCloud+, Apple TV+, etc.) and cancel any you don't want.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Many people are surprised by how many Apple subscriptions they have active. Reviewing this screen once every few months can save you money on forgotten services.
