    1

Create a Buzzsprout account and set up your podcast

    ~40s
Go to buzzsprout.com and click "Start for Free." Enter your email address and create a password. On the next screen, enter your podcast's name, choose a category (such as Education, Health, or Business), and select your language. Upload a square image to serve as your podcast's cover art — this is the image that appears in Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other apps next to your show's name. The image must be at least 1400 x 1400 pixels and should represent your podcast clearly.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If you do not have graphic design skills, use Canva (canva.com) to create your cover art. Canva has a free podcast cover template that makes it straightforward to add your show's name and a background image.

    2

    Upload your first episode

    ~24s
In your Buzzsprout dashboard, click "Upload a New Episode." Select your audio file from your computer — MP3 is the standard format. Buzzsprout shows a progress bar as the file uploads. While it processes, fill in the episode title, season and episode number, and a description. The description is what listeners see when they browse podcast apps. Be specific and engaging — explain what the episode is about and why someone would want to listen.
    3

Submit your podcast to Apple Podcasts and Spotify

    ~37s
In your Buzzsprout dashboard, click "Directories" in the left sidebar. You will see a list of podcast directories with submission buttons next to each one. Click "Submit to Spotify" and follow the prompts — Buzzsprout generates a special link you paste into the Spotify submission form. Do the same for Apple Podcasts. Apple's review process typically takes one to five business days for new shows. Once approved, every future episode you publish automatically appears in both directories within a few hours.

    Warning

You only need to submit to each directory once. After that initial setup, Buzzsprout handles all future distribution automatically. Do not submit again for each new episode — that will create duplicate listings.

    4

    Review your listener statistics

    ~36s
After your first episode has been live for a few days, click "Statistics" in your dashboard. Buzzsprout shows total downloads, which episodes are most popular, which countries your listeners are in, and which podcast apps they use. Downloads are counted when a listener's app fully downloads the episode file — it is a standard measurement used across the podcast industry. Compare numbers across episodes to see which topics attracted the most listeners.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Do not be discouraged by small numbers at the start. Most podcasts grow slowly through word of mouth. Consistent publishing, a clear topic, and asking friends and family to share the show are the most effective early growth tactics.

    5

    Enable the Magic Mastering tool

    ~24s
Buzzsprout's Magic Mastering feature (available on paid plans) automatically analyzes and improves the sound quality of your uploaded audio. It adjusts volume levels, reduces background noise, and ensures your audio meets the loudness standards used by streaming platforms. When uploading a new episode, toggle on the Magic Mastering option before publishing. Listen to the processed version using the built-in player to confirm the audio sounds better before your episode goes live.

Buzzsprout is a podcast hosting platform that stores your audio files, generates your podcast's RSS feed, and distributes your show to every major podcast directory — including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and iHeartRadio. Once your show is set up and connected, publishing a new episode is as straightforward as uploading a file and clicking Publish.

Podcast hosting is a necessary part of running a show that many beginners do not think about upfront. When you record an episode on your phone or computer, the audio file lives on your device. To make it available to podcast listeners worldwide, you need a hosting service to store the file on a server and connect it to podcast directories. Buzzsprout handles all of this.

The platform is known for being beginner-friendly. The interface is clean and clear, the setup process takes less than thirty minutes for most people, and customer support is responsive via email. Buzzsprout also produces its own tutorial videos on their YouTube channel that walk through every step of the process.

Buzzsprout offers a free plan that hosts your episodes for 90 days and allows up to two hours of new audio per month. Paid plans start at $12 per month and offer permanent hosting, more upload time, and additional features like transcripts and a magic mastering tool that automatically improves audio quality.

The free plan is a reasonable starting point to see whether podcasting is right for you before committing to monthly costs. Detailed pricing and feature comparisons are at buzzsprout.com. Buzzsprout also has a referral program where sharing their service with others earns credit toward your account.
