How to Set Up Calendar Reminders on Your Phone

Never miss an appointment again — set up and share calendar reminders on iPhone, Android, or your computer.

Add an event on iPhone

Open the Calendar app (comes free on every iPhone). Tap the "+" button or tap directly on a date. Type the event name (e.g. "Doctor appointment"), set the start time, and tap "Add Alert" to set a reminder. Choose how far in advance you want to be reminded — 1 hour, 1 day, or even 2 days before.

Quick Tip

Set TWO reminders for important appointments — one the day before and one 2 hours before.

Add an event on Android

Open the "Calendar" app (usually Google Calendar). Tap the blue "+" button or the date you want. Enter the event name and time. Tap "Add notification" to set a reminder. You can add multiple reminders — e.g. 1 day before AND 1 hour before.

Share a calendar with family

On Google Calendar: tap the three lines (☰), find your calendar name under "My calendars," tap the three dots next to it, then "Settings and sharing." Under "Share with specific people," add a family member's Gmail address. They'll see your events on their own Calendar app.

A shared family calendar is great for keeping track of appointments, school events, and holidays that affect everyone.

Set up recurring reminders

For things that happen regularly (medication, bin day, monthly bills), create the event and tap "Does not repeat." Change it to Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or set a custom interval. The reminder will automatically appear every time without you having to add it again.
