How to Use Canva for Free Design

Create professional graphics, presentations, flyers, and social media posts with Canva's free tools.

    1

    Get started

    ~15s
Visit canva.com or download the app. Create a free account. The free plan includes thousands of templates, millions of photos, and hundreds of design elements. No design experience needed.
    2

    Choose a template

    ~15s
Click "Create a Design" and choose what you want: social media post, presentation, flyer, birthday card, resume, poster, or custom size. Browse templates by category and pick one you like.
    3

    Customize your design

    ~15s
Click any element to select it. Change text by clicking and typing. Replace images by clicking and choosing new ones. Change colors by clicking the element and selecting a new color.
    4

    Add elements

    ~15s
Click "Elements" in the sidebar for shapes, icons, lines, charts, and stickers. Click "Text" for text styles. Click "Uploads" to use your own photos. Drag and drop to position.
    5

    Use Canva for presentations

    ~15s
Search "presentation" templates. Edit slides, add animations, and present directly from Canva. Export as PowerPoint or PDF. Much easier than building from scratch in PowerPoint.
    6

    Download and share

    ~15s
Click "Share" to collaborate with others or download. Choose PNG for images, PDF for print, MP4 for animated designs. Share directly to social media from Canva.
    7

    Quick Tip: Brand Kit

    ~15s
If you have brand colors and fonts, save them in Canva's Brand Kit (free for up to one brand). Apply consistent styling across all your designs with one click.
