ChargePoint App: Use the Largest EV Charging Network in the US

ChargePoint operates the largest electric vehicle charging network in the United States, with more than 30,000 charging locations spread across workplaces, shopping centers, hotels, parking garages, and public lots. The free ChargePoint app is your control center for finding and using those stations — you can locate chargers near you, start a charging session, monitor your charge in real time, and pay all from your phone.

Getting started with ChargePoint requires creating a free account and adding a payment method. Once that is set up, starting a charge is as quick as pulling up the app, finding the station you are at, and tapping "Start Charging." Many ChargePoint stations also accept tap-to-pay credit or debit cards directly at the unit without using the app, which is handy if your phone battery is low.

ChargePoint pricing varies by location. Some stations — particularly those at employers and certain retailers — are free. Others charge by the kilowatt-hour (kWh), which is a measure of electricity similar to how gas is priced by the gallon. Pricing is shown in the app before you start charging, so there are no surprises. ChargePoint also offers a membership option that can reduce per-session costs if you charge frequently.

The app tracks your charging history, showing how much energy you have added to your vehicle, how much carbon you have avoided compared to a gas car, and your total spending. This data can be useful for budgeting and for logging business mileage if you charge your work vehicle.

ChargePoint stations are mostly Level 2, which adds roughly 15 to 30 miles of range per hour. This makes them ideal for longer parking situations — while you shop, work, or eat a meal. ChargePoint also has some DC Fast Charging locations for quicker top-ups. The app distinguishes between the two so you can choose the right station for how much time you have.
