Sign up at the DoorDash Dasher website

    ~29s
On a computer or phone, go to dasher.doordash.com and click "Sign Up to Dash." Fill in your name, email, phone number, and zip code. You'll then be asked to submit your driver's license information and consent to a background check. The background check is conducted by Checkr and usually takes two to five business days.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: DoorDash sometimes runs sign-up promotions where new Dashers earn a guaranteed minimum amount for their first deliveries. Check the sign-up page for any current offers in your market before completing registration.

    2

    Download the Dasher app

    ~17s
Search for "DoorDash — Dasher" in the App Store or Google Play and install it. This is a separate app from the customer-side DoorDash app. Log in with the same account credentials you used when signing up. You won't be able to start dashing until your background check clears.
    3

Set your Dash schedule or start dashing now

    ~21s
Once approved, open the Dasher app. You can either schedule blocks of time in advance (useful for securing slots in high-demand areas) or tap "Dash Now" if your area currently shows availability. The map on the home screen shows you how busy nearby zones are using a color coding — darker red means more orders and better earnings.
    4

Accept and complete your first delivery

    ~29s
When an order is offered, you have about 30 seconds to decide. The screen shows the restaurant, the delivery distance, and estimated earnings. Tap Accept. Follow the turn-by-turn navigation to the restaurant, check in using the app, pick up the food, and follow navigation to the customer's address. Mark the delivery complete in the app after drop-off.

    Warning

Always double-check the customer's name on the order and the order items against your bag before leaving the restaurant. Incorrect orders are the most common complaint and affect your customer rating.

    5

Track your earnings and set up direct deposit

    ~22s
Go to the Earnings tab in the Dasher app to see your current week's pay broken down by delivery. Set up direct deposit in the Dasher app under Account > Pay > Bank Account. Your weekly earnings are deposited every Monday. If you want access to earnings sooner, the Fast Pay option lets you cash out to a debit card for a $1.99 fee.

DoorDash is one of the most popular food delivery apps in the United States, and the people who make those deliveries — called Dashers — are independent contractors who set their own hours and work as much or as little as they choose. Becoming a Dasher is straightforward and doesn't require any special experience or training.

To become a Dasher, you need to be at least 18 years old, have a valid US driver's license (or a bicycle in some cities), pass a basic background check, and have access to a vehicle or bicycle for deliveries. There's no interview and no boss. You sign up through the DoorDash website, complete the background check (which takes two to five business days), and once approved, you can start dashing.

The actual work is simple: you open the Dasher app and tap "Dash Now" to start accepting deliveries in your area. The app shows you available orders with the pickup restaurant, the delivery address, and an estimated total earnings for the trip including base pay plus any customer tip. You can accept or decline any order. If you accept, the app gives you turn-by-turn navigation to the restaurant, then to the delivery address.

Pay varies by market and by how busy the area is. DoorDash uses a base pay structure plus 100% of tips go to the Dasher. During peak hours — lunch (11am–2pm) and dinner (5pm–9pm) on weekdays, and most of the weekend — delivery demand is higher and pay per hour tends to be better. During slow periods, it's common to wait longer between orders.

Dashers are paid weekly via direct deposit, though a "Fast Pay" option allows you to cash out your current earnings to a debit card for a small fee. As an independent contractor, taxes are not withheld from your earnings — you're responsible for setting aside money for quarterly estimated taxes, usually around 25 to 30% of your net earnings.

The Dasher app is available for iPhone and Android and uses your phone's GPS for navigation. A phone mount for your car dashboard is a practical investment if you plan to dash regularly.
