eBay is one of the oldest and most popular online marketplaces in the world. You can sell almost anything on eBay — from collectibles and electronics to clothing, books, and household items. Millions of buyers visit eBay every day looking for things to purchase, which means your items have a large audience.
Selling on eBay is not complicated, but it does take a bit of time to do well. The most important factors in making a sale are a clear title, good photos, an accurate description, and a fair price. When buyers search eBay, your listing needs to stand out.
eBay charges a small fee when your item sells — typically around 12 to 15 percent of the final sale price for most categories. There are usually no fees to list an item (eBay gives you a set number of free listings per month). You get paid via PayPal or direct bank transfer once the buyer pays.
One thing that makes eBay different from local selling apps like Facebook Marketplace is that buyers come from all over the country (or world). This means you need to package and ship your item after it sells. eBay provides discounted shipping labels through USPS, FedEx, and UPS, which you can print at home.
Starting with a few small, simple-to-ship items — like books, DVDs, or small collectibles — is a good way to learn the process before selling larger or more valuable things.
