    1

    Create an eBay account

    ~20s
Go to ebay.com and click "Register" in the top-left corner. Fill in your name, email address, and a password. eBay will send a verification email — click the link inside to confirm your account. Once confirmed, go to "Account Settings" and add your payment method (bank account or PayPal) so eBay can send you your earnings after a sale.
    2

    Take clear, well-lit photos

    ~31s
Good photos are the single most important part of selling on eBay. Take photos in natural daylight or under bright lights — avoid dark or blurry images. Show the item from multiple angles: front, back, sides, and any notable features or flaws. If there is damage, include a photo of it — buyers appreciate honesty, and it protects you from disputes later. eBay allows up to 24 photos per listing.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Use a plain white or neutral background (a white sheet or piece of poster board works well) to make your item stand out clearly.

    3

    Create your listing

    ~24s
Click "Sell" at the top of eBay's website. Type the name of your item in the search box and eBay will suggest matching categories — select the most accurate one. eBay may auto-fill some details if your item has a barcode or model number. Fill in the Title field with a clear, descriptive title that includes the brand, model, and condition — for example, "Canon EOS Rebel T6 DSLR Camera Body Only, Good Condition."
    4

    Set a price

    ~20s
You have two options: a fixed "Buy It Now" price, or an auction starting price. For most beginners, a fixed price is easier to manage. Research what similar items have sold for by searching eBay and clicking "Sold items" in the filter panel to see recent completed sales. Price your item competitively but fairly, accounting for eBay's selling fee (usually 12–15%).
    5

    Choose your shipping option

    ~34s
In the shipping section, select "Calculated shipping" or choose a flat rate. eBay will estimate the shipping cost based on your item's weight and dimensions and the buyer's location. You can also offer free shipping (but factor the cost into your price). When your item sells, eBay will send you a discounted shipping label to print at home. Pack the item securely, attach the label, and drop it at the post office or schedule a pickup.

    Warning

Always package your item carefully — wrap breakables in bubble wrap and use a box with enough room for padding. A damaged item on arrival can result in a return request.

    6

    Complete the sale

    ~24s
Once a buyer purchases your item, eBay will notify you by email. Print the shipping label from "My eBay > Sold," pack the item, and ship it within your stated handling time (usually 1–3 business days). After the buyer receives the item and confirms everything is fine, eBay will release the payment to your account. Leaving the buyer a positive review and asking for one in return builds your seller reputation over time.

eBay is one of the oldest and most popular online marketplaces in the world. You can sell almost anything on eBay — from collectibles and electronics to clothing, books, and household items. Millions of buyers visit eBay every day looking for things to purchase, which means your items have a large audience.

Selling on eBay is not complicated, but it does take a bit of time to do well. The most important factors in making a sale are a clear title, good photos, an accurate description, and a fair price. When buyers search eBay, your listing needs to stand out.

eBay charges a small fee when your item sells — typically around 12 to 15 percent of the final sale price for most categories. There are usually no fees to list an item (eBay gives you a set number of free listings per month). You get paid via PayPal or direct bank transfer once the buyer pays.

One thing that makes eBay different from local selling apps like Facebook Marketplace is that buyers come from all over the country (or world). This means you need to package and ship your item after it sells. eBay provides discounted shipping labels through USPS, FedEx, and UPS, which you can print at home.

Starting with a few small, simple-to-ship items — like books, DVDs, or small collectibles — is a good way to learn the process before selling larger or more valuable things.
