Netflix Not Working? Fix Buffering, Freezing & Error Codes

Troubleshoot common Netflix problems — from endless buffering to mysterious error codes — on any device.

    1

    Netflix keeps buffering or freezing

    ~22s
Buffering (the spinning circle) usually means slow internet. First, close other apps or devices using your internet. Try: 1. Pause the show for 30 seconds, then press play (this lets it buffer ahead). 2. Lower the video quality: go to your Netflix account settingsPlayback Settings → change to "Medium" or "Low." 3. Move closer to your Wi-Fi router or use an ethernet cable if possible.
    2

    Netflix shows an error code

    ~20s
If you see an error like NW-2-5, UI-800-3, or 10023, here's what to do: 1. Close the Netflix app completely (don't just minimize it). 2. Restart your device (TV, phone, tablet, or computer). 3. Restart your Wi-Fi router (unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in). 4. Try Netflix again. Most error codes are temporary connection issues that a restart fixes.
    3

    Netflix won't load or open

    ~27s
On a smart TV: press the Home button, navigate to Netflix, and try again. If it still won't open, uninstall and reinstall the Netflix app from your TV's app store. On a phone or tablet: go to SettingsAppsNetflix → "Force Stop" then "Clear Cache." Open Netflix again. On a computer: clear your browser's cache (Ctrl+Shift+Del) and try netflix.com again.

    Quick Tip

Make sure your Netflix app and device software are up to date. Outdated software is a common cause of crashes.

    No sound or wrong language

    ~22s
While watching, tap the screen to show controls. Look for the speech bubble or audio icon. Tap it to see audio and subtitle options. Make sure "English" (or your preferred language) is selected for audio. If there's no sound at all, check that your device volume is turned up and not muted — also check that your TV's HDMI input is set to the right source.
