    How to Use Spotify: Stream Music, Podcasts & Playlists

    Set up Spotify, find your favorite music, create playlists, and discover podcasts — all for free.

    Download and create your account

    Search "Spotify" in your app store and install it. You can sign up for free with your email, Google account, Facebook, or Apple ID. The free tier includes ads between songs. Spotify Premium ($11.99/month) removes ads and lets you download music for offline listening.

    Search for music and artists

    Tap "Search" (magnifying glass) at the bottom. Type an artist name, song title, or genre. Tap a song to play it instantly. Tap an artist to see their full discography — albums, singles, and popular tracks. The "Home" tab also suggests music based on your listening history.

    Create a playlist

    Tap "Your Library" (bottom right) → tap the + icon → "Playlist." Give it a name like "Relaxing Evening" or "Road Trip." Now search for songs and tap the three dots (⋮) next to any song → "Add to Playlist" → select your playlist. You can also tap "Add songs" when viewing your playlist to search and add directly.

    Quick Tip

    Try Spotify's ready-made playlists like "Today's Top Hits," "Jazz Classics," or "Peaceful Piano" — they're updated regularly and a great way to discover new music.

    Listen to podcasts

    Tap "Search" and browse the "Podcasts" category, or search by name (try "The Daily," "Serial," or "TED Talks Daily"). Tap a podcast to see episodes. Tap any episode to start listening. You can follow a podcast (tap "Follow") and new episodes will appear in your library automatically.

    Connect to speakers and TV

    Tap the "Connect to a device" icon (looks like a speaker with sound waves) at the bottom of the Now Playing screen. You'll see available devices: Bluetooth speakers, smart TVs, Chromecast, Amazon Echo, and more. Tap a device to switch your music to it. You can control volume and skip tracks from your phone.
