How to Use iPhone Focus Modes

Customize notifications, lock screen, and home screen for different parts of your day.

    1

    What are Focus modes?

    ~15s
Focus modes let you filter notifications, calls, and apps based on what you're doing. Work Focus: only work notifications. Personal: only family and friends. Sleep: silence everything. Each can have its own lock screen and home screen.

    Set up Work Focus

    ~15s
Settings > Focus > Work. Add people and apps allowed to notify you during work hours. Set a schedule (9 AM - 5 PM, weekdays). Choose which home screen page appears. Link a professional lock screen.
    3

    Set up Sleep Focus

    ~15s
Settings > Focus > Sleep. Block all notifications. Set a wind-down period (30 minutes before bedtime) that dims the lock screen. Link to a dark, minimal lock screen wallpaper.

    Custom Focus modes

    ~15s
Create custom modes for Gym, Reading, Driving, or Family Time. Tap + to create a new Focus. Set allowed contacts, apps, schedule, and screen customization.
    5

    Focus Filters

    ~15s
Focus Filters control app behavior: show only work email in Mail, only work calendar in Calendar, or only certain Safari tab groups. Settings > Focus > [mode] > Focus Filters.
    6

    Share across devices

    ~15s
Enable "Share Across Devices" so your Focus mode activates on all Apple devices simultaneously. Activate Work Focus on your iPhone, and your Mac and iPad follow automatically.
