Download Lose It! and set up your profile

    ~22s
Search "Lose It!" in the App Store or Google Play Store and install the free app. Open it and tap "Get Started." Enter your sex, birthdate, height, and current weight. Then choose your goal — for example, "Lose weight" — and enter your goal weight if you have one. Lose It! will calculate a daily calorie budget and show you a projected timeline.
    2

    Log your first meal

    ~31s
Tap the "+" button on the main screen and select "Food." You can search for any food by name, scan a barcode on a packaged item, or browse Lose It!'s "Frequent" tab which remembers the foods you log most often. When you find your food, enter the portion size — for example, "1 cup" or "1 slice" — and tap "Add" to log it.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: You do not need to be perfectly precise about portion sizes. A reasonable estimate logged consistently is more useful than exact measurements you will give up after a few days.

    3

Use the barcode scanner for packaged foods

    ~21s
When logging a packaged food like cereal, yogurt, or a granola bar, tap the barcode icon next to the search bar. Hold your phone's camera over the barcode on the package until it scans. Lose It! will find the item in its database and fill in the nutrition information automatically. This is faster and more accurate than typing food names manually.
    4

    Check your daily summary

    ~21s
On the main "Log" screen, you can see a summary of calories consumed versus your daily budget, a breakdown of your macronutrients, and how much budget you have remaining for the day. Tap any meal category (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks) to see what you logged or to add more items. The colored progress bar at the top turns red if you exceed your calorie goal.
    5

    Review your progress over time

    ~33s
Tap the "Reports" tab (sometimes shown as a graph icon) to see charts of your calorie intake, weight trends, and nutrient averages over the past week or month. Tap "Weight" to log your current weight — doing this once a week helps the app show you trends and adjust your projections. Consistent tracking over two to four weeks usually reveals patterns that are hard to see day by day.

    Warning

Lose It! is a general wellness app, not medical advice. If you have diabetes, kidney disease, an eating disorder history, or another health condition, talk with your doctor before starting any calorie-restricted diet program.

Lose It! is one of the most popular free calorie tracking apps available for iPhone and Android. It helps you set a daily calorie budget based on your age, weight, height, activity level, and goal — whether that is losing weight, maintaining your current weight, or eating more mindfully. Each day, you log what you eat, and the app shows you how many calories you have left for the rest of the day.

The app has a database of more than 33 million foods, including items from major restaurant chains, packaged grocery products, and generic home-cooked ingredients. Searching for most common foods takes just a few seconds. Lose It! also has a barcode scanner. You point your phone's camera at any packaged food label and the app pulls up the nutrition information automatically.

In addition to calories, Lose It! tracks protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sodium, and other nutrients if you are interested in that level of detail. You can also log water intake, exercise, and body measurements. The free version of the app includes all the core tracking features. A premium paid tier adds more detailed nutrition analysis, meal planning, and additional insights, but many people find the free version is everything they need.

Lose It! works well for people who like to see concrete numbers. If you know what you are eating relative to your budget, it becomes easier to make adjustments without guessing. The app is not a replacement for professional dietary advice. But it is a useful tool for building self-awareness around your eating habits.

The app is available at loseit.com and in the App Store and Google Play Store.
