    Understanding and Managing iCloud

Get the most out of Apple's cloud service for storage, sync, and backup.

    1

    What iCloud does

    ~15s
iCloud syncs your photos, files, contacts, calendars, notes, and passwords across all Apple devices. It also backs up your iPhone and stores files in iCloud Drive. 5 GB is free.
    2

    Manage your storage

    ~15s
Mac: System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage. iPhone: Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Manage Storage. See what's using space. Delete old backups, large files, or unnecessary data.
    3

    iCloud storage plans

    ~15s
5 GB: free (fills up fast with photos). 50 GB: $0.99/month. 200 GB: $2.99/month. 2 TB: $9.99/month (can share with family). For most people with iPhones, 200 GB is the sweet spot.
    4

    iCloud Photos

    ~15s
Settings > Photos > iCloud Photos. All photos and videos sync across devices. "Optimize Storage" keeps full-res in the cloud and smaller versions on your device to save space.
    5

    iCloud Drive

    ~15s
Like Google Drive or Dropbox. Save any file to iCloud Drive and access it from any Apple device or icloud.com. In Finder, iCloud Drive appears in the sidebar.
    6

    Find My

    ~15s
iCloud powers Find My iPhone/Mac/iPad. If a device is lost or stolen, go to icloud.com/find to locate it, play a sound, lock it, or erase it remotely. Works even when the device is offline.
    7

    iCloud.com

    ~15s
Visit icloud.com from any browser (even on a Windows PC) to access your email, photos, contacts, notes, documents, and Find My. Useful when you don't have your Apple device with you.
