    Essential macOS Tips and Tricks

    Spotlight search

    Press ⌘+Space to open Spotlight. Type anything: app names, files, calculations (try "15% of 67.50"), unit conversions, weather, or web searches. It's the fastest way to do almost anything on your Mac.

    Hot Corners

    System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Hot Corners. Assign actions to screen corners — move your mouse to a corner to lock the screen, show desktop, start screensaver, or open Mission Control.

    Quick Look

    ~15s
    Select any file in Finder and press Space. Preview it instantly without opening any app. Works with photos, PDFs, documents, videos, and more. Press Space again to close.

    Screenshot tools

    ~15s
    ⌘+Shift+3: Full screenshot. ⌘+Shift+4: Select an area. ⌘+Shift+5: Full screenshot toolbar with recording options. Screenshots save to your desktop by default.

    Split View

    Hold the green traffic light button on any window, then choose a side. Select another window for the other side. Both apps fill the screen side by side.

    Text replacement

    System Settings > Keyboard > Text Replacements. Create shortcuts: type "eml" and it automatically expands to your full email address. Works across all apps.

    Force Quit frozen apps

    ~15s
    Press ⌘+⌥+Esc to open Force Quit. Select the frozen app and click Force Quit. This is the Mac equivalent of Ctrl+Alt+Del on Windows.

    Organize with Stacks

    ~15s
    Right-click your desktop > Use Stacks. Files automatically group by type (screenshots, documents, images). Your desktop stays clean without manual organizing.
