What's New in Windows 11 (And How to Use It)

A tour of Windows 11's best features and how they make your computer easier to use.

    1

    The centered Start menu

    ~15s
Windows 11 moves the Start button and taskbar icons to the center of the screen. Click Start to see pinned apps, recommended files, and a search bar. You can move it back to the left in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
    2

    Snap Layouts

    ~15s
Hover your mouse over the maximize button (top-right of any window) to see layout options. Click a zone to snap the window there. Organize 2, 3, or 4 windows side by side easily.
    3

    Widgets

    ~15s
Click the Widgets icon on the taskbar (or press ⊞ Win+W) for personalized news, weather, sports scores, stocks, and calendar events at a glance.
    4

    New Settings app

    ~15s
Settings is redesigned and much easier to navigate. Search for any setting with the search bar at the top. Common settings: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Display, Sound, Accounts.
    5

    Microsoft Teams integration

    ~15s
Teams is built into Windows 11 for free video calls, chat, and screen sharing. Click the Chat icon on the taskbar to start a call with anyone.
    6

    Virtual desktops

    ~15s
Press ⊞ Win+Tab to see your virtual desktops. Create separate desktops for different tasks — one for work, one for personal. Each desktop has its own set of open windows.
    7

    Better performance

    ~15s
Windows 11 uses less memory, wakes from sleep faster, and prioritizes the app you're using. Windows Update downloads are 40% smaller, so updates are quicker.
    8

    Check if you can upgrade

    ~15s
Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. If eligible, you'll see the option to upgrade. Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0 and a compatible processor — most PCs from 2018 or newer qualify.
