How to Manage Startup Programs on Windows

Speed up your PC boot time by controlling which programs launch at startup.

    1

    Open Task Manager

    ~15s
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager directly.
    2

    Go to Startup tab

    ~15s
Click the "Startup apps" tab to see all programs that run when Windows starts.
    3

    Check the impact

    ~15s
Look at the "Startup impact" column — High impact programs slow your boot time the most.

    Quick Tip

Focus on disabling "High impact" programs first. These make the biggest difference to your startup time.

    4

    Disable unnecessary programs

    ~15s
Right-click programs you don't need at startup and select "Disable." Be careful not to disable essential system programs.

    Warning

Do not disable programs you do not recognize without checking first. Some are essential system processes. When in doubt, search the program name online.

    Alternative method

    ~15s
Go to SettingsAppsStartup for a simpler toggle-based interface.
