    How to Migrate Data to a New Mac

    Transfer all your files, apps, and settings from your old Mac to a new one.

    Use Migration Assistant

    On your new Mac, open Migration Assistant (ApplicationsUtilitiesMigration Assistant).

    Quick Tip

    For the fastest transfer, connect both Macs with a USB-C or Thunderbolt cable instead of using Wi-Fi.

    Choose transfer method

    Transfer from another Mac (via Wi-Fi or cable), from a Time Machine backup, or from a Windows PC.

    Select what to transfer

    Choose: Applications, User Accounts, Documents & Data, and System & Network Settings.

    Warning

    If you transfer Applications, some may need to be re-authorised with their license keys. Have your software license keys ready.

    Wait for transfer

    The transfer can take from 30 minutes to several hours depending on data size and connection speed.

    Verify everything

    After transfer, check that your apps, files, and accounts are all present on the new Mac.
