    How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication on Mac

    Protect your Apple ID with two-factor authentication for added security.

    Open Apple ID settings

    Go to System Settings → your name (Apple ID) → Sign-In & Security.

    Enable Two-Factor Authentication

    Click "Two-Factor Authentication" → Turn On. Follow the prompts.

    Quick Tip

    Once enabled, two-factor authentication cannot be turned off for Apple IDs created with iOS 13.4 or later.

    Add a trusted phone number

    Enter a phone number where you can receive verification codes via text or phone call.

    Warning

    Use a phone number you will have long-term. If you change your phone number, update it in Apple ID settings immediately.

    Verify the setup

    Apple will send a verification code to your phone. Enter it to complete setup.

    Trust your devices

    Your Mac and other Apple devices become trusted automatically. Verification codes appear on trusted devices.
