    1

Download and sign in to Photoshop Express

    ~27s
Search for "Adobe Photoshop Express" in the App Store or Google Play and install it. When you open the app, it will ask you to sign in with a free Adobe account. If you already use Adobe apps like Acrobat or Lightroom, use the same account. If not, tap "Create an account" and sign up with your email address — it is free. After signing in, the app opens to the home screen where you can import a photo.
    2

Import a photo and start editing

    ~36s
Tap the plus (+) button or the image of a camera roll to import a photo from your device's camera roll. Select any photo and it opens in the editing workspace. The main editing controls appear at the bottom of the screen in a row of icons. Swipe left and right along the bottom toolbar to browse all available tools. At the top of the screen, Before and After buttons let you compare your edited version with the original at any time.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Start every edit by adjusting Light first, then Color, then applying any filters last. This order produces more natural-looking results than adding a filter before fixing the lighting.

    3

    Adjust light and color

    ~27s
Tap the "Light" icon in the bottom toolbar. Sliders appear for Exposure (overall brightness), Contrast (difference between light and dark areas), Highlights (brightness of the lightest parts), Shadows (brightness of the darkest parts), and more. Move each slider left or right and watch the photo change in real time. Tap "Color" to access Vibrance and Saturation sliders — Vibrance boosts muted colors without affecting already-vivid ones, while Saturation increases all colors equally. Most photos benefit from a small vibrance increase without any saturation change.
    4

    Crop and straighten your photo

    ~27s
Tap the "Crop" icon to open the cropping tool. Drag the corners of the crop box to reframe your photo. Common aspect ratios — like 1:1 for Instagram squares or 4:5 for portrait posts — are available as presets along the bottom of the crop screen. To straighten a photo that is slightly tilted, use the Straighten slider beneath the crop grid. A horizontal line in the viewfinder helps you align the horizon. When the crop looks right, tap the checkmark to apply it.
    5

Remove blemishes and save your photo

    ~39s
Tap "Healing" in the toolbar to open the spot removal tool. Zoom in on the photo by pinching outward with two fingers. Tap or brush over any spot, mark, or unwanted element — the app analyzes the surrounding area and fills in the selected spot with matching texture and color. For larger areas, brush slowly across the region you want to remove. When all your edits are complete, tap the Share icon or the Save button to export the photo back to your camera roll in full resolution.

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: Save a copy rather than overwriting the original. Look for a "Save a Copy" option when exporting so your unedited original stays in your camera roll alongside the edited version.

Photoshop Express is Adobe's free mobile photo editing app for iPhone and Android. It brings many of the most commonly used tools from the full desktop Photoshop software into an app that is designed to be fast and accessible. You do not need any prior experience with Photoshop to use it — the interface is organized around the tasks most people actually need: adjusting brightness and color, cropping, removing unwanted objects, and applying filters.

The app is free to download and use. A free Adobe account gives you access to the core editing tools without paying anything. Adobe Premium (a paid upgrade) unlocks additional healing tools, a background remover, and access to Adobe Fonts, but the free version handles most everyday photo editing tasks well.

Photoshop Express works by applying non-destructive edits — meaning the original photo is never permanently changed until you choose to save. You can increase the exposure, add a filter, and then undo everything at once if you do not like the result. This freedom to experiment without fear of ruining a photo makes it much easier to learn.

The app processes edits on your device, not in the cloud, which means it works quickly even without a strong internet connection. Edited photos can be saved directly to your camera roll or shared to social media, email, or other apps.

Photoshop Express is available in the App Store and on Google Play. Adobe's official tutorials are at helpx.adobe.com and on the Adobe Photoshop YouTube channel.
