The photo uploads and processing begins automatically. For most photos, the result appears within three to five seconds. You can also drag a photo file directly from your desktop or Downloads folder and drop it onto the Remove.bg page.

    Review the background removal result

    When processing finishes, the page shows your photo with the background removed. The subject appears on a gray and white checkered pattern, which is the standard way to display transparency in image software. Look carefully at the edges of the subject — hair and fur are the most common areas where small errors appear. Compare the original and the result using the slider that appears in the center of the preview image. For most portraits and product shots, the result is very accurate.

    Edit the result if needed

    If small areas of background were kept or parts of the subject were removed, click "Edit" above the preview image. This opens a simple editor with Restore (to paint back parts of the subject that were cut out) and Erase (to remove background areas that were left in). Use a brush to touch up the edges. The brush size can be adjusted with a slider. For detailed areas like loose hair strands, zoom in using the zoom controls and work in small sections for the most accurate results.

    Replace the background or download the image

The subject from your original photo is placed in front of whatever background you choose. When you are happy with the result, click "Download" to save the image. The free version downloads at a reduced resolution — typically around 0.25 megapixels. For full resolution, a paid credit is required.
