    1

    Open the Gmail App

    ~15s
Find the Gmail app on your phone (it has a red "M" logo). If you do not see it, search "Gmail" in your app drawer. Open the app — if it asks you to sign in, enter your Google account email and password.
    2

    Go to Account Settings

    ~15s
Tap your profile photo or initial in the top-right corner of Gmail. Tap "Add another account." You will see a list of email types: Google, Outlook, Yahoo, and others.
    3

    Choose Your Email Provider

    ~18s
Select the type of email you are adding. For Gmail addresses, choose "Google." For Hotmail or Outlook.com, choose "Outlook, Hotmail, and Live." For Yahoo Mail, choose "Yahoo." For anything else, choose "Other."

    Quick Tip

Quick Tip: If your email ends in @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, @hotmail.com, or @outlook.com, the setup is automatic — no technical settings needed.

    4

Enter Your Email Address and Password

    ~19s
Type your full email address (for example, yourname@yahoo.com) and tap "Next." Enter your password and tap "Next" again. The app will connect to the email server and verify your credentials. This usually takes less than 30 seconds.

    Warning

Make sure you are entering your email password, not your phone's PIN or lock screen password — they are different.

    5

    Allow Permissions and Finish Setup

    ~15s
Gmail may ask permission to access your contacts or calendar — tap "Allow" if you want those features. Give the account a nickname (like "Yahoo – Personal") so you can tell accounts apart. Tap "Next" and then "Done."
    6

    Switch Between Email Accounts

    ~17s
To check a different inbox, tap your profile photo in the top-right corner of Gmail. A list of your accounts appears — tap the one you want. Or use the hamburger menu (three lines, top left) to navigate to "All Inboxes" and see all emails together in one feed.

Adding an email account to your Android phone means you can check your inbox, reply to messages, and send new emails right from your phone — without opening a web browser. Android phones come with the Gmail app already installed, and it handles not just Gmail but also Yahoo Mail, Outlook, AOL, and most other email providers.

If you have a Gmail address, the Gmail app is already set up from the moment you sign into your Google account on the phone. But if you want to add a second email address — say, a Yahoo account or a work email — you just need to add it in settings.

For email services like Yahoo Mail, Outlook.com (Hotmail), or iCloud, the Gmail app will handle the connection automatically once you enter your email address and password. For workplace emails that use a private server, your IT department may need to give you server settings.

Once an account is added, you will see all your email inboxes either combined into one view or separated by account — you can switch between them with a tap. Notifications appear on your phone when new emails arrive, so you never miss an important message.
