How to Set Up Windows Hello (Face/Fingerprint)

Unlock your PC faster and more securely with facial recognition or a fingerprint.

    1

    Open Sign-in settings

    ~15s
Go to SettingsAccountsSign-in Options to see available Windows Hello methods.
    2

    Set up fingerprint

    ~15s
Click "Fingerprint recognition" → Set Up. Touch the fingerprint reader repeatedly to register your finger.

    Quick Tip

Register the same finger twice for better recognition, or register fingers from both hands for convenience.

    3

    Set up face recognition

    ~15s
Click "Facial recognition" → Set Up. Look directly at the camera while it scans your face.
    4

    Set a PIN as backup

    ~15s
Windows Hello requires a PIN as a fallback. Create a numeric PIN (or alphanumeric for more security).

    Warning

Without a backup PIN, you could be locked out of your computer if the fingerprint reader or camera stops working.

    5

    Test your setup

    ~15s
Lock your PC (⊞ Win+L) and try unlocking with your face or fingerprint to confirm it works.
