    Getting Started with Slack

    Download and join your workspace

    1. Download "Slack" from the App Store, Google Play Store, or slack.com 2. Open the invitation email from your company and click the link 3. Create your account — enter your name, choose a profile photo (optional), and create a password 4. You will see your Slack workspace with channels in the left sidebar If you were not invited, ask your manager or IT department to add you.

    Navigate channels and send messages

    **Browse channels:** 1. Look at the left sidebar for channels you have joined 2. Click any channel to see messages 3. To find more: click "Browse channels" or the "+" next to Channels **Send a message in a channel:** 1. Click the channel, type in the message box, press Enter 2. Everyone in that channel sees your message **Send a private message (DM):** 1. Click "Direct Messages" in the sidebar 2. Click the compose icon, type a name, and start chatting **Reply in a thread:** 1. Hover over a message and click "Reply in thread" 2. This keeps conversations organized without cluttering the channel

    Customize notifications

    Slack can send a LOT of notifications. Here is how to manage them. 1. **Channel-level:** Click the channel name > Notifications > choose: all messages, mentions only, or nothing 2. **Do Not Disturb:** Click your profile picture > "Pause notifications" 3. **Set a schedule:** Preferences > Notifications > "Notification schedule" — set quiet hours for evenings and weekends 4. **Mute channels:** Right-click a channel > "Mute channel" Good approach: get notifications for DMs and mentions, but mute busy channels you only check occasionally.

    Use the "Remind me" feature — hover over any message and click "Remind me about this" for a reminder later.

    Features that make Slack easier: 1. **Search** — Use the search bar to find old messages, files, or conversations 2. **Emoji reactions** — Hover over a message and click the smiley face to react (instead of typing "OK" or "thanks") 3. **File sharing** — Drag a file into Slack or click "+" to attach 4. **Mentions** — Type @name to get someone's attention. @here notifies everyone currently online. 5. **Bookmarks** — Click the bookmark icon on important messages. Find them under "Saved items." 6. **Status** — Click your profile photo to set a status like "In a meeting" or "Out of office"
