Tasty is a free recipe app made by BuzzFeed. It is particularly well-suited for people who are newer to cooking or who learn better from watching than from reading. Every recipe on Tasty comes with a short overhead video — usually one to three minutes long — showing each step of the cooking process from start to finish. Watching the video before you start cooking gives you a clear picture of what you are working toward.
The Tasty app has thousands of recipes organized into categories like "Quick & Easy," "Healthy," "One Pot," "Vegetarian," "Comfort Food," and more. You can search by ingredient — for example, if you have chicken and pasta at home, search "chicken pasta" and see all the recipes that use those ingredients. This makes Tasty useful for figuring out what to cook with what you already have on hand.
Each recipe page shows you the full ingredient list, the number of servings, the estimated prep time and cook time, and a written version of the step-by-step instructions below the video. You can scale the recipe up or down — for example, if a recipe serves four but you are cooking for two, tap "2 servings" and the ingredient amounts will adjust automatically.
The app is free to download and free to use. There is no subscription required to access the recipes or videos. Tasty is available for iPhone and Android, and you can also access recipes through the Tasty website at tasty.co.
Tasty is a good starting point for anyone who wants to cook more at home but does not know where to begin.
