Create a free Tynker account

Go to tynker.com and click "Get Started Free." Choose "Parent" to create a parent account first. Enter your email address and a password. Once your parent account is set up, you can create child profiles and assign courses appropriate for each child's age and skill level.

Add your child's profile

After logging in, click "Add a Child" in your parent dashboard. Enter your child's name and age. Tynker will recommend a starting course based on the age you enter. You do not need to enter your child's personal information beyond a first name — you can use a nickname if you prefer.

Start with a beginner course

In your child's profile, Tynker will display a recommended starting course. For young children ages 5 to 7, look for courses in the "Grades K–2" section, which use drag-and-drop activities with animal characters. For children ages 8 to 10, courses in the "Grades 3–5" section introduce game design concepts. Click "Start" on any course to begin the first lesson.

Try a Minecraft modding course (for Minecraft fans)

In the course catalog, look for "Minecraft Modding" under the popular or featured courses. These courses require a Tynker premium subscription. If your child already plays Minecraft, this course type is particularly motivating — they will learn to write actual code that changes how Minecraft looks and behaves, which feels like a superpower to most kids who love the game.

Warning

Minecraft modding through Tynker requires Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Make sure your child has a Bedrock Edition account before starting this course track.

Track progress from the parent dashboard

Log in to your Tynker parent account to see which courses your child has completed, how many stars they earned on each lesson, and which areas they are spending the most time in. You can also view certificates earned for completing full courses. This view helps you have conversations with your child about what they are learning and what they want to build next.
