How to Use AirDrop on Mac

Wirelessly share files between your Mac and other Apple devices instantly.

    1

    Enable AirDrop

    ~15s
Open FinderAirDrop in the sidebar. Set visibility to "Everyone" or "Contacts Only."

    Warning

Set AirDrop to "Contacts Only" in public places. Setting it to "Everyone" means strangers can send you files.

    2

    Send a file

    ~15s
Right-click a file → ShareAirDrop. Select the recipient from the list of nearby devices.

    Quick Tip

AirDrop is the fastest way to transfer photos and files between Apple devices. It works even without an internet connection.

    3

    Receive a file

    ~15s
When someone sends you a file via AirDrop, click Accept. It saves to your Downloads folder.
    4

Ensure both devices have BT/Wi-Fi on

    ~15s
AirDrop requires both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to be enabled on both devices (they don't need to be on the same network).
