How to Use Audible for Audiobooks

Listen to books read aloud with Audible — perfect for when your eyes need a break.

    1

    Download the Audible app

    ~15s
Search for "Audible" in the App Store or Google Play Store. Download it for free. You will need an Amazon account to use it.
    2

    Choose a membership plan

    ~21s
Audible offers a monthly membership that gives you credits to buy audiobooks. There is usually a free trial so you can try it before paying. You can also buy individual audiobooks without a membership.

    Quick Tip

Start with the free trial to get one or two free audiobooks. If you do not like it, you can cancel before the trial ends and keep the books.

    3

    Find a book

    ~15s
Browse by category (mystery, history, self-help, fiction, etc.) or search for a specific book or author. Each listing shows the book length and a sample you can listen to.
    4

    Start listening

    ~15s
Tap the play button to start your audiobook. Use the controls to pause, rewind 30 seconds, or skip forward. Audible remembers where you stopped so you can pick up right where you left off.
    5

    Adjust playback speed

    ~18s
If the narrator reads too fast or too slow, tap the speed button (usually shows "1x"). You can slow it down to 0.75x or speed it up to 1.25x or faster.

    Quick Tip

Try the sleep timer if you like listening in bed. It will stop playing after a set time so you do not lose your place.
