How to Use a Smart Dishwasher App

Connect your dishwasher to Wi-Fi to monitor cycles, get alerts when rinse aid is low, and download special wash programs.

    1

    Open your appliance brand's app

    ~15s
If you already use SmartThings, LG ThinQ, Home Connect, or SmartHQ for another appliance, open that app. Otherwise, install the one that matches your dishwasher brand.
    2

Tap the plus icon to add a device

    ~15s
Pick Dishwasher from the device list. The app will explain how to put your specific model into pairing mode — usually by holding the Start or Wi-Fi button.
    3

Connect to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

    ~15s
Enter your Wi-Fi password in the app. Most dishwashers only work with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi — if your router has two networks, pick the one without "5G" in the name.
    4

    Enable cycle notifications

    ~15s
In the app settings, turn on Cycle Complete, Rinse Aid Low, and Salt Low alerts. The dishwasher will ping your phone when any of these happen.
    5

    Download extra programs

    ~15s
Some Bosch and Samsung dishwashers let you download extra wash programs from the app — for baby bottles, wine glasses, or heavily soiled pots. Tap Programs in the app and pick ones to add.

Smart dishwashers connect to Wi-Fi so you can track the cycle from your phone, get alerts when you need more rinse aid or salt, and download extra wash programs like Baby Bottles or Pots & Pans.

Most brands use the same app as their washers and fridges — SmartThings for Samsung, Home Connect for Bosch, SmartHQ for GE — so if you already have one set up, adding the dishwasher takes only a few minutes.
