    How to Fix Wi-Fi Problems

Step-by-step solutions for slow, dropped, or non-working Wi-Fi connections.

    1

    Restart your router

    ~15s
Unplug your router (and modem if separate) from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the modem in first, wait for lights to stabilize (1-2 minutes), then plug in the router. This fixes most Wi-Fi issues.
    2

    Restart your device

    ~15s
Turn your computer, phone, or tablet off and back on. This refreshes the Wi-Fi connection and clears temporary network errors.
    3

Check if it's your device or the network

    ~15s
Try connecting a different device to the same Wi-Fi. If other devices work, the problem is your device. If nothing connects, the problem is your router or internet service.
    4

    Forget and reconnect

    ~15s
Go to Wi-Fi settings, tap your network name, choose "Forget" or "Remove." Then reconnect by selecting the network and entering the password again.
    5

    Move closer to the router

    ~15s
Wi-Fi weakens through walls and distance. If possible, move closer to your router. Thick walls, microwaves, and baby monitors can interfere with the signal.
    6

    Check for outages

    ~15s
Visit your internet provider's website or app to check for outages in your area. You can also call their support number. If there's an outage, you just need to wait.
    7

    Update router firmware

    ~15s
Log into your router (usually 192.168.1.1 in a browser). Look for a Firmware Update option. Updated firmware fixes bugs and improves performance.
    8

    Consider a mesh system

    ~15s
If your home has dead spots, a mesh Wi-Fi system (like Google Nest WiFi, Eero, or TP-Link Deco) blankets your entire home in strong Wi-Fi. Prices start around $100.
