    What is the Registry?

    The Windows Registry is a database that stores settings for Windows and installed programs. It controls everything from your desktop background to how programs start. Think of it as Windows' master configuration file.

    Sometimes troubleshooting guides mention Registry edits. Removing leftover software entries. Tweaking settings not available in the normal Settings app. Fixing specific Windows behaviors.

    How to open it

    Press ⊞ Win+R, type "regedit," and press Enter. Click Yes when prompted. The Registry Editor shows a tree of folders (keys) on the left and values on the right.

    Before any change: File > Export > Save. Choose "All" for a complete backup or the specific key you're editing. If something goes wrong, double-click the backup file to restore.
