How to Cast Your Phone Screen to the TV

Show photos, videos, or anything from your phone on the big screen — here's how to cast using Chromecast, AirPlay, or screen mirroring.

    1

Make sure your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network

    ~23s
Before you can cast wirelessly, both your phone and your TV (or streaming device) need to be connected to the same home Wi-Fi network. Check your phone's Wi-Fi settings and your TV's network settings to confirm they match.

    Warning

If your phone is on a different Wi-Fi network than your TV, casting will not work. This is the most common reason it fails.

    2

Cast from an Android phone using Chromecast

    ~22s
If you have a Chromecast plugged into your TV, open a supported app on your phone (like YouTube, Netflix, or Google Photos). Look for the Cast icon — it looks like a rectangle with Wi-Fi waves in the corner. Tap it and select your Chromecast from the list. The video or photo will appear on your TV, and your phone becomes the remote control.
    3

Cast from an iPhone using AirPlay

    ~18s
On your iPhone, open the app or photo you want to show on the TV. Tap the Share icon (a box with an arrow pointing up) or the AirPlay icon (a rectangle with a small triangle at the bottom). Select your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV from the list that appears.
    4

Mirror your entire phone screen (Android)

    ~17s
On Samsung, LG, and many other Android phones, swipe down from the top of the screen to open quick settings. Look for "Smart View," "Screen Mirror," or "Cast" and tap it. Select your TV from the list. Everything on your phone screen will now show on the TV.
    5

Use an HDMI adapter as a backup option

    ~28s
If wireless casting is not working, you can connect your phone to the TV with a cable. Buy a USB-C to HDMI adapter (for most Android phones) or a Lightning to HDMI adapter (for iPhones). Plug one end into your phone and the other into your TV's HDMI port. Switch the TV to that HDMI input, and your phone screen will appear on the TV.

    Quick Tip

A wired connection using an HDMI adapter always gives the most reliable picture with no lag or buffering.
