    How to Use an Amazon Fire Stick

    The Amazon Fire Stick turns any TV into a smart TV — here's how to set it up and start watching.

    Plug the Fire Stick into your TV

    Insert the Fire Stick into an HDMI port on the back or side of your TV. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet and connect the other end to the Fire Stick. Then use your TV remote to switch to that HDMI input — look for a button labeled "Input" or "Source."

    Pair the remote and connect to Wi-Fi

    The Fire Stick remote usually pairs with the device automatically. If it does not, press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds. Make sure batteries are inserted. Then follow the on-screen setup to connect to your home Wi-Fi network by selecting your network and typing your password.

    Have your Wi-Fi password ready before you start. You will need to type it using the on-screen keyboard.

    Sign in with your Amazon account

    Enter your Amazon email address and password when prompted. If you bought the Fire Stick from Amazon while logged into your account, it may already be registered to you and this step will be done automatically.

    Find and watch shows

    The home screen shows popular apps across the top, including Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and more. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to browse. To search across all your streaming services at once, select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen and type or speak what you are looking for.

    Use Alexa voice search and set parental controls

    Press and hold the microphone button on the remote and say something like "Search for comedy movies" or "Play Stranger Things on Netflix." Alexa can also pause, play, and control the volume. To set parental controls, go to Settings, then Parental Controls, and create a PIN to restrict purchases or block certain content.
