    How to Configure Windows Firewall

    Manage your PC's firewall to block threats while allowing trusted programs through.

    Open Windows Security

    Go to SettingsPrivacy & SecurityWindows SecurityFirewall & Network Protection.

    Check firewall status

    Make sure the firewall is On for all three network profiles: Domain, Private, and Public.

    Warning

    Never turn off the firewall unless a trusted technician specifically asks you to, and always turn it back on afterwards.

    Allow an app through

    Click "Allow an app through firewall" to add specific programs to the allowed list.

    Quick Tip

    Only allow apps you recognize and trust through the firewall. If you are unsure about an app, search its name online first.

    Create inbound/outbound rules

    Open "Advanced settings" for Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security to create custom rules.

    Restore default settings

    If you've misconfigured the firewall, click "Restore firewalls to default" to reset all rules.
