    How to Use Google Calendar to Stay Organized

    Keep track of appointments, birthdays, and reminders with Google Calendar — free on any device.

    Open Google Calendar

    Go to calendar.google.com in your browser, or download the Google Calendar app on your phone. Sign in with your Google account (the same one you use for Gmail).

    Create an event

    Click or tap the + button (or click on a date). Enter the event name, date, time, and location. Add a description if needed. Click "Save." The event now appears on your calendar and you will get a reminder notification before it starts.

    Set up reminders

    By default, you get a notification 30 minutes before each event. To change this: when creating or editing an event, click "Add notification" and choose when you want to be reminded (10 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day before, etc.). You can add multiple reminders.

    Share your calendar

    Click the three dots next to your calendar name in the sidebar, then "Settings and sharing." Under "Share with specific people," add someone email address. They can then see your events (great for coordinating schedules with family members).

    Quick Tip

    You can create separate calendars for different areas of life: "Medical," "Family," "Social." Color-code them to see at a glance what your week looks like.
