How to Make Text Bigger on Your iPhone: Font Size and Display Zoom

Reading text on an iPhone can be difficult if the default size feels too small. Apple provides two separate controls for making things larger, and using both together gives you the biggest improvement in readability. The first is Text Size, which changes the size of text inside apps. The second is Display Zoom, which enlarges everything on screen — icons, buttons, menus, and text — by increasing the display scale.

Text Size is the gentler of the two adjustments. You can find it in Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size, where a slider lets you drag from smaller to larger. Dragging it all the way to the right makes text noticeably bigger in all Apple apps (Messages, Mail, Notes, etc.) and many third-party apps. There is also a "Larger Text" option under Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size that unlocks even larger sizes beyond what the standard slider allows.

Bold Text is another helpful option in the same accessibility menu. Turning on Bold Text makes all text heavier and easier to distinguish on the screen — even at the same size, bolder letters are easier to read at a glance.

Display Zoom changes the entire visual scale of your iPhone. With Zoom turned up, icons are larger, buttons are bigger, and the whole interface feels more spacious. To access it, go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Display Zoom and choose the "Larger Text" option.

Both of these settings are completely reversible. You can change them back at any time with no lasting effects. There is no wrong answer — experiment until your iPhone feels comfortable to read.
