How to Order Groceries with Instacart

Get groceries delivered from your favorite local stores without leaving home.

Download the Instacart app

Search for "Instacart" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android). Download it for free and open it.

Set up your account

Create an account with your email, name, and address. Add a payment method. Instacart will show you stores that deliver to your area, like Costco, Kroger, Safeway, or Walmart.

Choose a store and start shopping

Tap on a store to start shopping. Browse by category (produce, dairy, snacks, etc.) or use the search bar to find specific items like "milk" or "bread."

Add items to your cart

Tap the + button next to any item to add it to your cart. You can adjust the quantity or choose a replacement preference in case an item is out of stock.

Quick Tip

Set replacement preferences for each item so your shopper knows what to do if something is unavailable. You can choose "refund" or pick a specific alternative.

Choose delivery time and place your order

When you are done shopping, go to your cart. Choose a delivery time — you can pick today, tomorrow, or schedule for later. Review your order, add a tip for the shopper, and tap "Place Order."

Receive your groceries

Your personal shopper will pick out your items at the store and deliver them to your door. You can chat with them in the app if they have questions about replacements.
